People and Families
* Note: “Doers” are second-tier, second-level, non-direct support organizations/people in a community who would be doing the work of Microboard development. Examples: independent facilitation organizations, independent facilitators, etc.
**Note: “Supporters” are supporters of the concept and may provide an ancillary role of assisting families to develop Microboards. They are direct support agencies and other groups who support the values, mission and vision, and who would assist people and families through other roles that complement and enhance the work. For example: flowing people’s funds, finding support workers, partnering, etc.
- provide education, information, resources and mentoring to the Provincial Development Team, local affiliates and communities as requested
- examples: David and Faye Wetherow, Manitoba; Linda Perry, Vela Canada, British Columbia; Elizabeth and Gerald Bloomfield, Ontario.
Microboards Ontario
- interface with Vela Canada, Linda Perry, Aroha Entities, Elizabeth Bloomfield and other leaders with lived experience in Ontario
- interface with provincial groups and others in Ontario (i.e. OIFN)
- provide education, information, resources and mentoring for people, families, local affiliates, connected others and individual Microboards/Arohas
- ensure the guiding principles that establish the ability to use the trademarked names ‘Microboard’ and ‘Aroha’ are maintained
- liaise with federal and provincial governments and other recognized organizations with regard to systemic changes needed in Ontario to facilitate effective development of Microboards. (Examples: Law Commission of Ontario, ARCH Disability Law, Insurance companies, and underwriters, etc.)
- support community development work by providing education, understanding, and connections with potential affiliates
- ensure access to all communities by supporting individual Microboard/Aroha development (i.e. rural communities, north or other places where people would not have access to a local affiliate).
Local Affiliates * (the doers)
- promote education, information and resources for potential Microboards/Arohas
- support people and families to develop a support network and eventual members for an Microboard/Aroha
- support people and families who do not have an independent facilitator or source to develop a support network and eventual members for the Microboard/Aroha
- assist with the development and sustainability of the Microboards/Arohas
- provide financial/in-kind resources where possible to support local project work
- support the mission, vision and values of Microboards and Microboards Ontario.
Connected Organizations** (the “supporters”)
- support the values associated with Arohas and Microboards
- be willing to flow individualized funding on behalf of Microboards/Arohas (direct service providers)
- provide education, information and resources on Microboards/Arohas
- provide financial/in-kind resources where possible to support local project work and affiliates
- support the mission, vision and values of Microboards and Microboards Ontario
- connected organizations are: PooranLaw, Community Living Windsor, Windsor Essex Family Network, Windsor Essex Brokerage For Personal Supports, Family Respite Services Windsor Essex, Community Living St. Marys & Area, Ingersoll Support Services, Community Living York South.
People and Families
- whenever possible, have a voice, provide feedback and participate in local planning groups
- act as champions
- support the mission, vision and values of Microboards and Microboards Ontario.
